You can normally leave this on Auto. Change it only if the result clearly has the wrong number of speakers

No file? Record with your microphone. Transcription starts after you stop recording (up to about min on this device with the selected model). Your recording is not sent to any server either.

How it works

  1. 1

Choose an audio file or record

Supports major formats like MP3, WAV, M4A and FLAC. Drag & drop works too. No file? You can also record with your microphone and transcribe that.

  2. 2

    AI transcribes automatically

AI (Whisper, SenseVoice or Qwen3-ASR) runs inference inside your browser. The first run downloads the model (40 MB–5.2 GB depending on which one you pick).

  3. 3

    Export the results

Save as documents (TXT, Word, PDF), subtitles (SRT, VTT) or data (CSV, JSON). Speaker diarization is supported.

What you can use it for

Turn recordings into text without leaving your browser. Because nothing is uploaded, it also suits recordings you cannot hand to a third-party service.

Meeting minutes

Speaker diarization colour-codes each participant, so the transcript is already close to a set of minutes. Internal recordings stay off external servers.

Interview transcripts

There is no limit on recording length. The interviewer and interviewee are told apart automatically, and you can give each of them a name.

Video and YouTube subtitles

Load an MP4 or WebM file directly, check and fix the captions while the video plays, and export timecoded SRT subtitles. No conversion step is required.

Lecture and seminar notes

Keep recorded lectures as searchable text. Larger models handle audio with heavy domain terminology better.

Voice memos

M4A memos recorded on a phone can be loaded as they are and turned into text.

Podcast and stream transcripts

Transcribe archived episodes to reuse as articles or as a base for search visibility.

Start from what you need

If you already know the file type or the goal, start here — the settings are tuned for each case.

Other tools by the same author. Save an X broadcast before transcribing it, shorten a long recording before loading it, or burn the SRT you made into the video, all inside your browser.

Supported file formats

Audio files
MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, WMA, AMR, WebM
Video files
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV, FLV, MPG, MPEG-TS, 3GP (the audio track is extracted and transcribed; the result plays back as captions over the video)
Export formats
TXT (plain text), Word (DOCX), PDF (print to PDF), SRT / VTT (timecoded subtitles), CSV and JSON
File size limit
Up to 2 GB per file (500 MB on smartphones)
Languages
100 languages (Whisper's 99 plus Cantonese with SenseVoice). Besides Japanese, English, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Russian, Italian and Indonesian, you can choose Dutch, Turkish, Polish, Thai, Vietnamese, Arabic and many more. Search by language name or code, or choose “Auto-detect” if you are not sure

You do not need to convert video to audio beforehand — the browser extracts the audio track as soon as the file is loaded.

Available models

Eight models are available. SenseVoice Small is the default for Japanese, Chinese and Korean. Larger Whisper models transcribe more accurately, but the initial download and the hardware they need grow as well. Qwen3-ASR 1.7B is a high-accuracy model for computers with WebGPU only, and downloads about 5.2 GB the first time.

ModelSizeNotes
SenseVoice Small〜240 MBJapanese, Chinese, Korean, English and Cantonese. Light and fast, and at least as accurate as Large v3 Turbo for Japanese and Chinese (default for Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Cantonese)
Whisper TinyGPU 〜145 MB / CPU 〜40 MBFast and lightweight. Best for clear audio
Whisper BaseGPU 〜280 MB / CPU 〜75 MBA good balance of speed and accuracy
Whisper SmallGPU 〜925 MB / CPU 〜240 MBHigh accuracy. Strong on jargon and difficult audio
Whisper MediumGPU 〜1.0 GB / CPU 〜650 MBBetween Small and Large. High accuracy, large size
Whisper Large v3 TurboGPU 〜1.5 GB / CPU 〜725 MBNear-best accuracy and fast. WebGPU recommended (recommended)
Whisper Large v3GPU 〜2.0 GB / CPU 〜1.2 GBFull Large v3. The most accurate Whisper model, largest size, slow (WebGPU essentially required)
Qwen3-ASR 1.7B〜5.2 GBHigh accuracy. Only on computers with WebGPU; the first run downloads about 5.2 GB (two models: one for text and one for timestamps) and uses about 5 GB of GPU memory (VRAM)

Whisper Medium and above, and Qwen3-ASR, require a WebGPU-capable environment. Without WebGPU, choose Small or smaller.
As a reference point, Whisper Large v3 and Qwen3-ASR 1.7B ran on Windows 11 with a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER (8 GB). Qwen3-ASR uses about 5 GB of GPU memory.

How this differs from cloud transcription services

Most transcription services send your audio to their servers for processing. Transcriber runs the model inside your browser instead, which changes the trade-offs.

AspectTypical cloud serviceTranscriber
Where audio goesUploaded to the provider's serversNever sent — processed on your device
Free allowanceUsually capped at a number of minutes per monthNo time or usage limits

Cloud services have the advantage of consistent speed on low-powered devices. In-browser processing suits cases where the recording must not leave your control, or where you need to process long audio without hitting a quota.

Frequently asked questions

Is it really free? Are there any time or usage limits?

It is completely free. There are no limits on duration, number of runs, or character count, and no credit card is required. The only cap is 2 GB per file (500 MB on smartphones); within that, you can use it as often as you like.

Is my audio uploaded to a server?

No. AI (Whisper or SenseVoice) runs inference inside your browser, so your audio never leaves your device. Nothing is stored on a server and nothing is passed to a third party.

Do I need to create an account or sign in?

No. Open the page, pick an audio file, and transcription starts. You are never asked for an email address.

Which file formats are supported?

Audio: MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, Opus, AIFF, WMA and AMR. Video: MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, WMV, FLV, MPG, MPEG-TS and 3GP. You can drag and drop a file or choose one through the file picker.

Can I transcribe a video file?

Yes. Load an MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM or AVI file and the browser extracts its audio track for transcription. There is no need to convert it to an audio file first. Once transcribed, you can play the video with the result overlaid as captions to check and correct it, or watch it with translated captions. The limit is 2 GB per file (500 MB on phones). Videos saved from X (Twitter) with X Video Downloader can be loaded as they are; to extract just the audio first, use Media Tools.

Can it tell speakers apart?

Speaker diarization is supported (Beta). For recordings with several participants, such as meetings or interviews, each speaker is shown in a different colour. The number of speakers is estimated automatically, so there is normally no need to set it. Speaker labels can be renamed on screen, and speakers that were split by mistake can be merged, and any line can be reassigned or split. When transcription runs on WebGPU in a browser other than Firefox and the speaker count is left on Auto, diarization uses NVIDIA Nemotron 3 Diarization; otherwise it uses pyannote, and in both cases WeSpeaker is used to compare voice characteristics.

Can I generate subtitle files?

Yes — transcripts can be exported as SRT and VTT (WebVTT) subtitles with timecodes, ready to load into video editors or video platforms (most video editors accept SRT). Plain text (TXT), Word (DOCX), PDF, CSV and JSON export and copy to clipboard are also available. To burn the exported SRT directly into the video, use Media Tools (subtitle burn-in).

Can I translate the transcript?

Yes. Open “Translate” in the result header, choose the source and target languages, and a translation appears under each line. Every export format can carry the original, the translation, or both. If you loaded a video, the translation can also be shown as captions over it during playback. Translation uses the translator built into Chrome 138+ and Edge 148+ on desktop and runs entirely on your device, so the transcript is never sent anywhere. It isn't available on smartphones or in Firefox and Safari. The first use of a language downloads its translation model.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After the AI model has been downloaded once, transcription works without a network connection. Model sizes range from roughly 40 MB to 5.2 GB depending on which one you choose.

How can I improve accuracy?

Choosing a model that suits the language improves accuracy. For Japanese, Chinese and Korean, the default SenseVoice Small is light and fast, and for Japanese and Chinese it is at least as accurate as Whisper Large v3 Turbo. For other languages, larger models are more accurate; on devices with WebGPU support, Whisper Large v3 Turbo offers close to the best accuracy while staying fast. On computers with WebGPU you can also choose Qwen3-ASR 1.7B (about 5.2 GB to download the first time), which makes fewer errors than Whisper Large v3 Turbo in Japanese, English and Chinese. Setting the language explicitly instead of leaving it on automatic detection also reduces errors.

Can I use it on a smartphone?

Yes, though it runs in a reduced-memory mode (WASM) to protect the device, and files are capped at 500 MB. For long recordings, a desktop computer is recommended.

Do you collect error information?

Only the statistics needed to fix problems. That means your device specs (GPU model, memory, core count), browser and OS, the model and language you chose, your speaker diarization setting (on or off, and the number of speakers you set), the page's display language, how far the run got, the error type and text, the file's format with a rough size and length, and how long it took. The same fields are sent on success too, because a failure rate needs both. Audio, transcripts, file names, and IP addresses are never sent, and the data goes only to this site's own server — never to a third-party service. You can turn it off any time with the switch in the “Help us improve the service” section near the bottom of the page.

Can I save the transcript as Word or PDF?

Yes. Under “Download” below the result, choose “Word (DOCX)” to save a document that opens in Word. PDF is saved through your browser's print function: choose “PDF”, then save as PDF in the print dialog that opens (on iPhone and iPad, use the share button in the print screen and save to Files). CSV for spreadsheets and JSON for programs are also available. Every format is created inside your browser, so the transcript is never sent anywhere.

Can I record from the microphone in my browser and transcribe it?

Yes. Press “Record with microphone” to record with the microphone of your computer or phone. Press “Stop recording”, then “Start transcription”, and the recording is transcribed. The recording is not sent anywhere either; it is saved in this device's history. You can record for up to 3 hours, or less depending on your device's memory and the selected model; the limit is shown before you start recording. On a phone, locking the screen or switching to another app while recording may stop the recording.

Help us improve the service

Sending us the circumstances of a run — successful or failed — helps us track down problems (a failure rate needs both). Knowing which devices and settings fail most often lets us revise the recommended defaults and fix the bugs behind them. If you don't mind, leaving this on is a real help.

What is sent

Your device specs (GPU model, memory, core count), browser and OS, the model and language you chose, your speaker diarization setting (on or off, and the number of speakers you set), the page's display language, how far the run got, the error type and details, the file's format with a rough size and length, and how long it took.

What is never sent

Audio, transcripts, file names, and IP addresses. The data goes only to this site's own server, never to a third-party service.
